Broken Leg
Hiya gang! I have not been to FP because I have been spending the last three months indoors and stuck at home due to a badly broken leg - I had to have surgery to get a rod and 11 screws put in to hold it together, and the healing process has been very slooooow.
Any how, God has been good to me during this very trying time, and I praise Him for my healing and the fact that I am up and about now! "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." |

When my dad had his done, he was in hospital about three days and had to wear dark glasses for some days after that, but when my wife had hers about 10 years ago, she went in at 8.00 am, had general anaesthetic and was home in time for lunch. My wife did not want local anaesthetic as she couldn't bear the thought of seeing someone poking around in her eyes. I did hear of someone, though, who asked for a mirror so he could see what was happening. David Job 19:25 But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth, And at last he will stand up upon the earth: |

RE: Broken Leg
Wow, It bothers me to think of someone poking around on my eye.
Back in 91 I believe it was I had a nail that hit me in my left eye, thankfully it did not hit my pupil, yet was right next to it. Had emergency surgery and 5 stitches in my eye. I was in the hospital about 5 days, the week after I got out they took the 1st stitch out, the one stitch per week until they were all gone. I believe it was 2 weeks after the last stitch was removed on morning my sight was clear as a bell. I suppose this will be much easier than that was. When she had her operation she was asked, when they put the new lens in, if she wanted to wear specs for distance or close work, She said for close work. She has regretted it ever since as ahe had never had to wear them for reading before. David Job 19:25 But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth, And at last he will stand up upon the earth: |

RE: Broken Leg
I believe I would rather have glasses for close up and be free of them when out and about.

RE: Broken Leg
Hi Bro. Jerry - isn't modern medicine wonderful!? I have some retina troubles in my left eye - which is not good because my left eye is my strongest eye. My right eye is weakest, and I have worn eyeglasses most of my life. I am right handed, so I tend to be very clumsy because I lack much eye hand coordination.
I wear trifocals and if I lose my eyeglasses I have to put on an old pair of single vision glasses just to find my good glasses. I am finally able to walk about without any assistance from a walker, crutches, or cane - I almost forgot how to walk! I feel like a baby toddling along. Praise the Lord for his goodness and mercy! My right eye is weakest, and I have worn eyeglasses most of my life. I am right handed, so I tend to be very clumsy because I lack much eye hand coordination. I used to wear bifocals but did not get on with them even though I tried 2 types. Then I trie variofocals. Some people do not get on with them, but I found them wonderful from the first time I put them on. It is the nearest to not wearing glasses at all. I did try contacts and could have had a free trial, but they would not let me take them until I could put them in on my own and I did not manage that so I gave up on that idea. The trouble with variofocals is the they are so expensive, especially as I always have reactalite as well. Over £300 in the corner opticians, that's about $450. However, I now go to a chain, Specsavers, and they go from about £245 and I have the choice of buy one pair and get another free, or take a 25% discount as I am a senior citizen. I take the latter. RE: Broken Leg
I tried the progressive lenses, they did not work for me, yet I feel the fellow may have missed up on measurements.
I've never really had no trouble out of bifocals. The only time I have trouble is when its hot and I sweat, them me and glasses don't get along at all. Linda has a policy on her health insurance that helps on getting glasses. The ones I now have the have Transition lenses and I had to pay extra in order to the them. Modern medicine is wonderful and I feel we really are not thankful enough for it. I can't imagine how it would be to live in total darkness like my great grand mother and great great aunt. Back in the mid 70's I did get a scare when I injured my both of my eyes. The doctor told me when my sight came back he would let me go home. 5 Days later he let me go home yet I still did not have my sight and still had to wear patches over each eye for 2 or 3 more days. For the next 3 weeks I had to make two 300 mile round trips to see my doctor. Each time he would tell me that my sight would come back at anytime and my eyes were doing just fine. After 3 weeks out of the hospital still my sight had not come back, everything was still a big blur. For the next 3 weeks I had to make one trip each week to see him. Just before the third visit I woke up one morning and everything was clear as a bell. The next day was my appointed. I told my doctor I began to think he was putting me on about my sight coming back. He replied, "I was beginning to worry a bit, yet I did not want to cause you to worry about it, for I felt the injury did no permanent damage and your sight would come back sooner or later." He still kept me off work for 2 more week although my vision was almost perfect. At the time I was a truck driver and he told me we need to be careful and give your eyes a bit more time to be sure you do not strain them and do harm to them.
