Big Day?
My daughter is getting married on Saturday.
Many years ago she deckared her faith in Jesus and was baptized at the same time as he younger sister. who is part of a fine christain family. However the elder has wandered away from the Lord and here prospective husband is, I believe, a Buddhist. His parents are christians, so they both have teaching but have rejected it. The strange thing is, when we went to their hose and had a meal, they both looked at me and expected me to give thanks for the food. They are getting married in a registry office and having the celebrations, in the form of a bring and share barbecue, in a field about 60 miles away. We regularly pray for them. David Job 19:25 But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth, And at last he will stand up upon the earth: |

Davo Wrote:Thanks, Jerry Your welcome, yet I am one of those that still believe a Baptist ought to marry a Baptist, that Christians ought not marry unbelievers. I believe the Bible is very clear on that. I will not marry no one but Baptist people who are saved. I will not marry them if they will not meet with me where we can discuss the issues of marriage. Once I married a Baptist man, and a Methodist woman, she promised me at counseling that after marriages she would join our church, she had been attending regularity with the many she was to marry. What she did after I married them was stopped attending church. The husband comes by his self. Their daughter since being born, come to church about every other Sunday with her father. The other Sunday's she stays home with mother. Oh, in the month of July this young girl has been to church 1 time. No, I will not do such a thing again. 2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? I met a baptist pastor who believed that no-one should marry in Church. I believe that in France you have to be married by the mayor of the town or village, you can then have a blessing in a church if you wish. I know of a retired Baptist pastor in another country whose wife is a Presbyterian and they go to the baptist Church one wee and the following week they go to the Presbyterian. It seems an odd arrangement to me, surely the wife should go to her husband's church? David Job 19:25 But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth, And at last he will stand up upon the earth: |

RE: Big Day?
Getting married in church, or out of church surely does not make the marriage. A person can have a godly wedding in church and or out of church. One wedding I did was held in a barn, all the guest set on bales of hay.
I don't really care for those who mock God, live ungodly, them have their wedding in a church house. I know of one couple that were very worldly had asked a church if they could have their wedding in their church. The pastor OK'ed it. Them on the morning they were preparing the church for a 2:00 PM wedding the pastor found out the songs they were going to sing. He told them, no wedding if you use those songs, if you will change to appropriate songs the wedding can go on. I was told by the father-in-law they had a fit and stormed out of the church building. I told him, if they were ungodly songs them I would have done the same. In His service, Jerry Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 "Jesus is our only hope!" |

We had a couple attend out church and they asked us to marry them, we refused as we did not consider the woman to be a believer. The never came back, although about 9 years ago I went to a Baptist chapel about 10 miles from here and there he was, on his own. I don't think he recognized me. The pastor who preaches at our church onece a year, told his church when appointed that he wou;d not marry a believer to an unbeliever. The church agrred but soon after he was appointed the matter came up when the son of a deacon wanted to marry an unbeliever. If I remember correctly, he stood down while someone else conducted the service. David Job 19:25 But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth, And at last he will stand up upon the earth: |

RE: Big Day?
There seems to be many opinions on this issue.
The Baptist pastor I surrendered to preach under said this, I will marry any man & woman, if I don't someone else will, it might as well be me, as someone else. I must say his beliefs on this had an affect on me, yet after studying the Bible on this issue I can't follow his way. RE: Big Day?
I agree with you, Jerry.
I tried to teach my daughter, when she was young, that she should not marry an unbeliever, however she left home many years ago and has since rejected the Christian faith. Strangely enough, when I went to their house, they both looked at me before a meal. When I asked why, they said we are waiting for you to give thanks.
