Every Idle Word
Ramblings of the day
Idle Words - Saying much...with less value. (To every Idle word we will give account Matthew 12:36) They are like Chinese tools you get alot for the same money but do they really have any value, do they get the job done right, do they last? God's Word WILL last regardless of how we handle it... but there is a price to pay for not taking care of our Fathers tools... It use to be that if a letter or radio or phone call came from a missionary in the foreign country, everyone paused a moment to take it all in and listen. Today’s ease of communication has had the same effect as bible societies had for the Bible. Make it cheaper and easier for all to have and then it has less perceived value to anyone...... If everyone in the world were millionaires how much of a price increase would there be on the 99 cent meal at the fast food restaurant? Example tweeting, back in forth about a roller coaster ride or food just ate to those distant somebodys, but not saying it to those in your presence. Or when your college daughter puts you on hold to answer a call from someone else …on the same bus? Its happened. Or every personal thing you do through out the day broadcast to the world “I just had the best burger at xxx... and worse, people are reading it. Its one reason teen are doing more stupid things than ever… seeking out lost attention elsewhere. Talk about preparation for the last days. 2 Timothy 4:4-5 itching ears and teachers all around. 200 years ago the Bible in all fronts was a sacred book many would die defending or protecting it, even pay a month or years salary to own one. Hated or loved but no middle ground Now that everyone has access, many professing Christians toss their bible aside until its time for church… Or think nothing about dropping or placing it on the floor or pick a version because it was the easiest to read… How many died that you could have it to freely read? Is this not what our communal mentality has done with the Heavenly Father as well…God is reduced to a Genie in a bottle to be called upon as needed, or a word on a bumper sticker hat or shirt, Not a heavenly Holy Almighty I AM that is due our all. ok thats off my chest.. |

RE: Every Idle Word
I remember a preacher saying this....
We have preached more, and more, about less, and less, until we have said all their is to say about nothing.... So many pulpits, and people use so many idle words instead of God's word. II Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. It's not our words, it's the word of God which will make the difference. Jim Norman I'm glad i'm saved, and not some body! John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease. |

RE: Every Idle Word
Yes, but the pastor does expands on the Word of God. Of course I once heard one man preach, he read one Holy Scripture out of the Bible, them spoke for about 30 to 35 minutes. It seemed his message was filled with wisdom of man. It contained several talking points yet it had no meat. Yet I have found some churches do not want any meat.
For instants, several years back I was called to preach at a church. After Sunday school like most churches they had a break. They started the worship service at 11:00 PM taking up the offering. Them a group in the church came forth and sang songs until about 11:40 PM. I got started at about 11:45 PM. As I started reading my Scriptures from the bible the man who seemed to be their leader made a big show of looking at his wrist watch. After reading the Scriptures I said a prayer. Them once again he made a big show of looking at his wrist watch, and did so about every 3 to 4 minutes. I say a big show of looking at his wrist watch, for he would raise his arm up, pull back his shirt sleeve so that everyone more especially me would be sure he was seen looking at his wrist watch, that he was timing the event and wanted it over quickly. That is the only time I've ever witness such a thing, but I feel sure it happens in many churches. In His service, Jerry Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 "Jesus is our only hope!" |

RE: Every Idle Word
AMEN Bro. Jerry! Back in the day, my preacher would have laughed at that, and tell them to hang a CALENDAR instead of a clock on the wall! When the Holy Spirit gets ahold of a sermon, there are no time limits! One day in God's time is as 1000 years in man's time! Our little church had no airconditioning and everyone would sit and fan themselves in front of the open windows. Sometimes we would not leave the church house until 1 or 2 in the afternoon! It just depended on the message and what the Lord laid on our preacher's heart to tell us. That was when people would start walking the isle and getting right with God! Now days everyone is in a big ole hurry to leave the church so they can meet up with all their friends at Applebees. Our community closed its doors on Sundays, so we all went home to cold sandwiches and soup.

I remember back in that day, our pastor had a fan blowing directly one him in those hot summers, yet before he finished his handkerchief would be soaking wet, as well as his suit coat if he had not removed it. As for those setting in the pews they had 6 oscillating fans blowing on them, of course you had to be setting in a perfect positions in the pews to feel them, them it was only for a moment. I was really impressed with the elderly women, I'm still amazed, seems some of them could set through the whole service and that funeral pallor fan in their hand would never stop going back and forth giving a bit of relief from the heat on their face. Oh, I remember one or 2 women who had a beautiful fan that folded out, of course most did not have the money to buy one of those store bought hand held fans, so they used the ones the funeral pallor handed out. Example; Old hand held fan In His service, Jerry Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 "Jesus is our only hope!" |

RE: Every Idle Word
Yup I remember the funeral parlor fans. Sometimes the churches would have a batch of them printed up specifically for that particular church and hand them out during revival times - it had the name and address of the church plus the regular hours of worship and stuff like that printed on them. Here in Florida they aircondition the auditorium so cold that you could hang meat in there - I have to bring a sweater or a jacket to keep from freezing to death.
The best services I remember were the outdoor services held on the creek banks or under a shade tree next to the pond for Batisms. Everone brought food so that after the service we could celebrate with a big picnic. We really looked forward to those. Those and the fifth Sunday Singings! What fun! Oh well, I guess there are no churches that do those kinds of things anymore... "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." |

Yes, even some given out by the politicians or a insurance company seemed to make their way into the doors of our church in hot weather. Grandmother could operation one of those things quite well. RE: Every Idle Word
They still make the old time church fans, but I don't think the churches use them much anymore...

They've been used at least 2 times in recent history. One Sunday morning a fuse had blown at the transformer, no electricity, we still had church services on that warm morning, it came back on about 10 minutes into my sermon. I forget the cause of it being off the other time, but thankfully it also got turned back on before preaching services. Yes, I know, now days many churches that finds their electricity off on Sunday morning will turn around and go back home, not us. Our church had electricity but not enough funds for the airconditioning, but we would open up all the windows and doors and allow those God-given breezes to blow through. We did not have padded pews either, we had those long plain polished wooden pews. Some of the members would bring cushions to sit on and kept them there at the church. We had blankets tossed on the backs of the pews for winter weather. "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." |
