Women in Matthew 1
Good morning! I wanted to share something with you that my Pastor spoke on Sunday night that I found extremely fascinating and very educational.

In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 1, verses 1-17 we find the genealogy that traces the lineage from Abraham to Jesus. The thing I did not realize is that there are five women included in the genealogy. I knew there were two but the other three I was unaware of. The five women are also a picture of the Gospel and salvation. It is quite amazing. Let me share them with you.

(Mat 1:3) And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

(Mat 1:5) And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; (Rachab is the Greek spelling for Rahab)

(Mat 1:6) And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; (Bathsheeba)

(Mat 1:16) And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Thamar = sin

Rachab = grace

Ruth = faith

Bathsheeba = the death of an innocent (Uriah)

Mary = predestination

Thamar: (Mat 1:3) And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; (See Gen 38-6 and following)

Rachab and Ruth: (Eph 2:8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Bathsheeba (Uriah): (Joh 19:30) When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Mary: (Rom 8:29) For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Is that not fascinating? I found it extremely interesting. There are not that many women mentioned in the Bible yet you can see from this outline what an important role they do play in the Bible. I pray you got something out of this.

In Christ,
George

(Galatians 5:1) Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

RE: Women in Matthew 1
All women that no self respecting Jew would wish in his genealogy.

Thamar -- Incest

Rachab -- Harlot

Ruth -- Foreigner

Bathsheba -- Adultery.

Mary -- Virgin

None of the women named would have been respectable by Jewish standards, but they are the only women named, surely showing redemption.

Amen, Bro George! That's a good study.

"Always correct the Bible critics with the King James' text and never worry about doing it. Do it cheerfully, prayerfully, and with thanksgiving, giving the glory to God and being assured that at the Judgment Seat of Christ, you won't have anything to worry about." Dr. Peter S. Ruckman

Wow, yes brother George, thank you for that.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Amen!

Occupy till I come (Luke 19:13b)

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12)
