Referendum in NZ
In 2007, the New Zealand Parliament passed legislation that effectively made it a criminal offence to smack a child. Even a light smack on a child's hand by a parent could lead to prosecution and criminal charges being laid. Naturally, this law caused a great deal of anxiety among Christian parents who had long enjoyed the freedom to raise and train their children along Biblical lines.
But finally, it seems there is some good news. A recent referendum in New Zealand about the smacking issue resulted in a landslide majority for those who disagree with the anti-smacking laws. When the smacking ban was originally passed, there was extensive media coverage, and it was widely reported here in Australia. But even though almost 90% of voters in this referendum voted "NO" to the criminalization of smacking, very little has been said by the media. It is almost as though they don't want people to know about it. I had no idea that this referendum was taking place, and only learned about it today when I read a tiny little article about it in a local newpaper. I then did a quick search on the web, and found this: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/articl...d=10592353 Not surprisingly, this resounding decision by the New Zealand electorate hasn't gone down too well with the left wing/socialist/greenie types over there. Occupy till I come (Luke 19:13b) As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12) |

RE: Referendum in NZ
I suppose the anti-smackers be the me & I people of whom its all about me, probably spoiled rotten by parents who never taught them to be obediant.
A quote I put in this Sunday's Church bulletin. A child has to learn obedience in the home or he will never learn obedience to the heavenly Father. In His service, Jerry Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 "Jesus is our only hope!" |

RE: Referendum in NZ
Dr. Benjamin Spock has changed society as a whole when he wrote his popular baby book back in the early 1960s. I heard that his own child got heavily into drugs and eventually committed suicide.
