Minute by Minute walk with the Holy Spirit
As we grow in the Lord we hear often from the pulpit that we are to walk with the Spirit. So how do we walk with the Holy Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh? The first and obvious anwser is "Read the Word of God, and pray". While this is true there are other things we must know and do for a successful walk with the Holy Spirit.

First, we must submit to God.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Before we can resist the devil, we must submit to God. All our power comes not from ourselves but from the Holy Spirit which indwels us.

If we do not have a submissive spirit to God then we quench the Spirit. 1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit. Going our own way causes us to quench that still small voice of the Holy Spirit. He will never leave us nor forsake us, yet will step aside and allow us to step into sin if we do not maintain a submissive spirit, bringing chastizement upon ourselves.Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

To have that minute by minute walk with the Holy Spirit we must pray without ceaseing. 1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing. When we are submissive, our thoughts will be on things of the Lord Phil 4:8 "think on these things". While must have our closet prayer time one on one with the Lord, and our corporate prayer time with our family and bretheren, we can continue these prayers though the day. As those who the Holy Spirit lay on our hearts come to our thoughts, we can bring them to the Lord. God knows our every thoughts. Pray without ceaseing.

Submiting to God brings resistance to the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7.

The devil flees and that sweet fellowship with the Holy Spirit renews. We are now free from the bondage of sin to Draw nigh unto God, and H WILL draw nigh unto us.

A right relationship with God brings the fruit of the Spirit Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

A note on Joy 1Th 5:16 Rejoice evermore. Joy is contentment. No matter our state we find ourselves in, if we maintain that minute by minute walk with the Holy Spirit we can have that Joy in the Lord that so many do not grasp ahold of.

When we make that poor choice to sin, when we quench the Holy Spirit this one thing we must do imeadiately.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Return to God, claim forgivness, restore that fellowship. Invite God back into the drivers seat of your life, and continue on your minute by minute walk with the Holy Spirit.

This is by no means an in depth study but prepared as a devotion. Please coment or post any scripture that is applicable and remember to keep that minute by minute walk with the Holy Spirit.

Bless you all.

RE: Minute by Minute walk with the Holy Spirit
Thank you for this devotion, Brother Tim. I will just add a few scriptures from the Book of James. James 3:8-13... 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought (should not happen) not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place (opening) sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew (show) out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. King James Bible

This is certainly a wonderful reminder to me. My hope and prayer is that "we" as children of the King of King and Lord of Lords... help one another through this temporary place called Life. We need edification from one another. Smile We know this place on earth is not our permanent home... and, that is why restlessness sets in. God is building our character, each and every minute of the day. Also, let us be kind to the unsaved... as they do not know the truth. We know we were once blinded in total darkness. I will add that Romans 13 is a commandment for ALL of us, not an option. As much as we may disagree with our current leadership in the White House... somehow the Lord saw it fit, to put the other side in power. I pray that God surrounds our nation's leaders with love and kindness. May he sanctify, bless, convict, and do whatever is necessary to bring salvation to these lost souls. God is STILL in charge! He always will be. Amen.

In Christ Jesus,

Molly

Excellent Brother Tim! This is an area I struggle with daily. When I get to feeling good or feeling comfortable my relationship with God suffers and gets put on the back burner and something goes wrong again and I go running back to Him begging for help. I have said before that often I think my favorite hobby is arguing with the Holy Spirit. I never win yet I never seem to learn either.

Aaaw, yes... the "Comfort Zone"... lol. I know exactly what you are talking about, Brother George. And, why is it that I tend to have these battles with the Holy Spirit... as well? I know that I never come out a winner, in that area. It makes me realize how powerless I am and how powerful the Lord Jesus Christ is.

RE: Minute by Minute walk with the Holy Spirit
Amen Bro George and Candlelight. The Lord has been teaching me this and it is truely a daily battle. I find it amazing how I can be walking with the Lord one minute then step off line the next. Praise God he takes us back and our walk can be renewed. Ive been starting my mornings by discussing this minute by minute walk with the Lord.

I realize when I am battling sin and losing, it is when im not in that minute by minute walk.

God Bless all yall

RE: Minute by Minute walk with the Holy Spirit
You know what scares me the most? I am really concerned that one of these days the Lord is going to get tired of hearing the same old thing from me day after day. Then I will be in big trouble. I know that God's grace and mercies are renewed to us each day but one of these days I would like to save some up just in case! Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. He provides just what we need even when we don't feel that way ourselves.

Do you ever find yourself wondering, "Why me?" I often do. It amazes me when I stop and think about it. Why does God love even me? I am not worth it in my eyes. Yet in His eyes we are all adopted sons and daughters. What is it that a Father would withhold from a son or daughter?

Yet I often find myself shaking my head and wondering. It is when I get in a reflective mode such as that, that the tears start to flow. I wasted most of my life and yet His goodness, grace and mercies follow me each day and He has provided the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort me. Me? Wow!

RE: Minute by Minute walk with the Holy Spirit
So very, true... Brothers, George and Tim. I do a lot of crying these days... for that same reason, Bro. George... why me? In fact... every day I seem to ask that question. I got a thought in my head awhile back that went like this: "If I could work so hard for Satan, imagine how much I could accomplish by being on the Lord's side?" Shortly after, God convicted me of my sins... and I was saved. Not, the the Lord Jesus Christ needs my help...haha. "No"... I desperately need His help. I certainly do think back to the way He was guiding and directing me... all the days of my life. God has ALWAYS been with me. It just took me awhile to really hear His voice. I know that I have A LOT of cathing up to do.

Tim, that is so true about discussing your "minute by minute walk with the Lord" in the morning. He starts us fresh and new every day. We can get up, thank Jesus for being alive, and put on the "Full armour of God." We have another day to serve our wonderful King. I always think about Martha Washington. She started every morning in prayer and devotion with Christ. She actually spent 2 hours doing this. Wow! And, that was the wife of the first president of our nation? How humbling when I think of her.... praying for this nation.

How eternally greatful I am to be an "adopted child" of the Living Saviour of this world and universe. Listening to His voice is the best thing that I can do. He also speaks to me through other people. Right now... He is truly speaking to me. As the days draw to a close... I am forever looking forward to meeting the wonderful Christians on Fundamental Preaching in heaven. That will be a joyous day for me! God bless all.

Luke 12:47-48...47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. "Faithful and Evil Servants" King James Bible

RE: Minute by Minute walk with the Holy Spirit
Not much more I can add to the last two posts. George, you took the words right out of my mouth. Candlelight, our adoption is so wonderful.

We are remodeling our bathroom. Today I got up and go busy, and forgot to talk about my minute by minute walk with the Lord today. A few hours into it, nothing was going right. I was having major plumbing issues, lost my temper a few times and yelled at the lifeless plumbing pipes. It then hit me as to why I was having such a bad day. Well, it got better as the Lord and I talked and I came to His feet.

Yep, I shed a lot of tears also. seems the older I get... I rarely preach a message where there are no tears from me. I used to be embarassed about it until an old and wise Pastor told me that perhaps the tears are part of maturity in growing more sencetive to the Holy Spirit.

Thank you both for your posts, this has been refreshing and uplifting.

Praise, Honour, and Glory be to God.
