Obama's accomplishment's
I am starting a thread here to post on what Obama does as our current President.

I will delete any threads that only show opinions and no facts. You can start nay thread you want to simply talk about how you feel or what you think.

I will start out with one (It has not been enacted as of this post, but am showing it as an example) that he most likely will enact.

Love in Christ,

Jim

Obama to reverse foreign abortion aid rule ban. He is pro-abortion

Quote:WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama will sign an executive order later Friday ending the ban on federal funds for international groups that promote or perform abortion, officials said.

It is a move certain to please liberals and other abortion-rights advocates, and the reversal was expected in the Democrat's first week as president.

The so-called "Mexico City policy" has been reinstated and then reversed by Republican and Democratic presidents since Repulican President Ronald Reagan established it in 1984. President Bill Clinton then ended the ban, but President George W. Bush re-instituted it in 2001 as one of his first acts in office.

Specifically, the policy bans U.S. taxpayer money, usually in the form of U.S. Agency for International Development funds, from going to international family planning groups that either offer abortions or provide information, counseling or referrals about abortion.

'Global gag rule'
It is also known as the "global gag rule," because it prohibits taxpayer funding for groups that even talk about abortion if there is an unplanned pregnancy.

The Democratic official and the senior U.S. official who disclosed the plans did so to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to pre-empt Obama's announcement.

Obama was expected to sign the executive order at a low-key event, one day after the 36th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court ruling Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion in the United States.

RE: Obama's accomplishment's
Obama has ended the War on Terror - maybe we should all be brushing up on Sharia Law?

Quote:Bush's 'War' On Terror Comes to a Sudden End

By Dana Priest
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, January 23, 2009; Page A01

President Obama yesterday eliminated the most controversial tools employed by his predecessor against terrorism suspects. With the stroke of his pen, he effectively declared an end to the "war on terror," as President George W. Bush had defined it, signaling to the world that the reach of the U.S. government in battling its enemies will not be limitless.

Obama Plans to Close Guantanamo Prison
While Obama says he has no plans to diminish counterterrorism operations abroad, the notion that a president can circumvent long-standing U.S. laws simply by declaring war was halted by executive order in the Oval Office.

Key components of the secret structure developed under Bush are being swept away: The military's Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, facility, where the rights of habeas corpus and due process had been denied detainees, will close, and the CIA is now prohibited from maintaining its own overseas prisons. And in a broad swipe at the Bush administration's lawyers, Obama nullified every legal order and opinion on interrogations issued by any lawyer in the executive branch after Sept. 11, 2001.

It was a swift and sudden end to an era that was slowly drawing to a close anyway, as public sentiment grew against perceived abuses of government power. The feisty debate over the tactics employed against al-Qaeda began more than six years ago as whispers among confidants with access to the nation's most tightly held secrets. At the time, there was consensus in Congress and among the public that the United States would be attacked again and that government should do what was necessary to thwart the threat.

The CIA, which had taken the lead on counterterrorism operations worldwide, asked intelligence contacts around the globe to help its teams of covert operatives and clandestine military units identify, kill or capture terrorism suspects. They set up their first interrogation center in a compound walled off by black canvas at Bagram air base in Afghanistan, and more at tiny bases throughout that country, where detainees could be questioned outside military rules and the protocols of the Geneva Conventions, which lay out the standards for treatment of prisoners of war.

As the CIA recruited young case officers, polygraphers and medical personnel to work on interrogation teams, the agency's leaders asked its allies in Thailand and Eastern Europe to set up secret prisons where people such as Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh could be held in isolation and subjected to extreme sleep and sensory deprivation, waterboarding and sexual humiliation. These tactics are not permitted under military rules or the Geneva Conventions.

Over time, a tiny circle of federal employees outside these teams got access to some of the reports of interrogations. Some were pleased by the new aggressiveness. Others were horrified. They began to push back gingerly, as did an even smaller number of congressional officials briefed on the reports.

Eventually their worries reached a handful of reporters trying to confirm rumors of people who seemed to have disappeared: a Pakistani microbiologist spirited away in the dead of night in Indonesia. An Afghan prisoner frozen to death at a base code-named the Salt Pit. A German citizen who did not get back on his bus at a border crossing in Macedonia.

Front companies and fictitious people were used to hide a system of aircraft that carried terrorism suspects to "undisclosed locations" and to third countries under a little-known practice called rendition.

Unlike the federal employees, who could go to jail for disclosing the classified program, the reporters and their news outlets were protected by the Constitution -- but not from government pressure. Then-CIA Director Porter J. Goss and, later, Bush summoned top editors of The Washington Post to press their case against disclosing the existence of the secret prison network.

The published reports in The Post and elsewhere earned the news media sharp recriminations from the administration, the Republican leadership in Congress and the public. Government leak investigations were launched. Bush administration officials argued that such methods and operations were necessary to effectively thwart terrorism, noting to this day that there have been no major attacks since 2001.

If there were dissenters back then, they were largely silent.

But in Europe, the reports set off a firestorm of criticism and government investigations in nearly every capital. Washington was pressured to move prisoners out of the secret jails. U.S. government officials scattered throughout the national security and foreign policy agencies scrambled to learn more about operations they knew little about. A growing chorus within the CIA and the State Department began to question how long the secret system of detention and interrogation could survive, and drew up plans for an alternative.

By then, the color-coded terrorist alerts had ended. Police disappeared from roadblocks around the Capitol. Washington the fortress drew millions of visitors again. Some Democratic members of Congress replaced the "war on terror" phraseology with language indicating vigilance and persistence, but not unending combat and military-only options.

On Sept. 6, 2006, Bush announced the transfer of 14 "high-value detainees" from secret prisons to Guantanamo. He suspended the CIA program, but defended its utility and reserved the right to reopen it. The secret was officially out.

Over the next 2 1/2 years, as Democrats gained power in Congress, as the violence in Iraq sapped public support for the president and as the fear of another terrorist attack receded, the debate over secret prisons, renditions and harsh interrogations grew louder. Presidential candidates felt comfortable to include these sensitive subjects in the debate on the efficiency of Bush's war against terrorists, and even on the notion that it was still a war.

During his campaign and again in his inaugural address Tuesday, Obama used a different lexicon to describe operations to defeat terrorists. "As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals," he said. ". . . And for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you."

RE: Obama's accomplishment's
Right now they are discussing "nationalizing" the banking industry. Just another step toward's Obama's progression towards communism. He apparently has appointed a "task force" to do this, requiring yet even more tax dollars, which were used for theis so-called "stimulus package" we are "receiving". Not to mention it is a redistribution of "wealth" that was already our to begin with.

We now have the worst president in U.S history, and the only reason people voted for him is because he promised the most from the public treasury. He has violated just about every aspect of the U.S. Constitution, and he knows this, because the Constitution will only stand in his way.

I am sick and tired of the apathy of "human beings" in this country that was once free and slowly, at least in the next 8 years, ceases to be. Nobody is doing anything. The citizens have always used law and order and the boundaries of that law to support their views, while the tyrannical government constantly disobeys those laws to purport their agenda.

We need prayer for our country, but I am going to add something else. We need to go beyond prayer, we need to stand up for what we know is right, and do something about it. Writing our representatives is no longer working. They no longer care about anything you and I say, they have power and greed and that is where they take their comfort.

We need to start forming organizations that support our founding forefathers and biblical values. We need to start empowering those organizations to do what is necessary to keep our freedoms and start speaking out in every we can against this current government of tyranny.

Am I being radical? No, if it sounds like I am to you, then that is because you also have been listening too much, and too long to our mainstream "media", i.e. local news stations, NPR, and major network internet news stations. They all have liberal left-wing agenda's and wil lalmost always support the federal government.

Do what is right and find and join groups that you feel support your values and are biblically oriented. The time for apathy is over. We need to do something, and do it NOW. Stop worrying about your comfort and if the world or country will label you as a "hate group". Let me tell you this, ANYONE speaking out against their ungodly agenda will be labeled as a "hater". Being labeled something doesn't make it true. If you love the Lord, let the world HATE you!

Love in Christ,

Jim

Thanks also from me! There are some very interesting and thought-provoking articles on that site. I liked the article about "Tooth Fairy Economics"; the author raised some very good points about Obama's stimulus package. The logic of the whole stimulus package idea simply baffles me. I mean, if you are in financial strife, the last thing you'd want to do is add to your troubles by racking up billions of dollars of extra debt. But that is exactly what they are doing! People enjoy getting all this extra money, but they forget that there's no such thing as a free lunch. Whatever borrowed money the government hands out will eventually be taken back in the form of higher taxes!

Speaking of Obama and pro-abortion. Sad I wonder if Nancy Pelosi's VERY expensive trip to Italy, with several other politicians this week, was productive?

Was it the vacation that she wanted to visit her grandparents' homeland... after drawing up the government "Stimulus Package?" I hope we find out soon.

RE: Obama's accomplishment's
Right, get a load of this!

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/arti...wD96HJ1H01

I very much doubt that Obama will be able to pull this one off. He would have been far better off getting on with the job, and leave the bragging until he actually has achieved something. Otherwise, he is going to look very foolish in 2013. Top marks to him for wanting to have a go at doing something about the massive budget deficit, but considering the fact that he is about to borrow another $787 billion to "stimulate" the economy, he does seem to be getting off to a very bad start. The maths seems pretty simple; consider this: Suppose the interest rate on the borrowed money is 5% per annum (don't know what the interest rate is, just using 5% as an example, it seems a reasonably fair amount). Five percent of $787 billion is $39.35, and that's the amount of interest owing after the first year. Add that to the principal, and the total is $826.35 billion owing after the first year. After the second year, due to the compounding effect, the total becomes $867.67 billion. After four years, the total is about $956.57 billion. That's $169.57 billion of interest (on top of the original amount) that will be owing by 2013. So, whether Obama starts paying it off before then, or whether he just lets the debt pile up, he will need to find large amounts of money eventually, and I find it hard to believe that there will be any surplus funds left over with which he can reduce the budget deficit. I really don't know what the interest bill will be; it may be more, or it may be less. I was only using 5% as an example to illustrate how debt can become a problem very quickly. One way or another, I think that this spending spree plus a range of other economic factors will make it very difficult indeed for Barack Obama to halve the budget deficit by 2013.

Australia's former Prime Minister John Howard once said: "Getting into debt is like going down the lift (that's Aussie for "elevator"). Getting out of debt is like climbing up the stairs." He knew what he was talking about, because he paid off the $96 billion debt (that's a lot for us over here!) that the previous Labor Governments had run up, and got the budget into surplus for most of his time in office from 1996-2007. The current Labor Party Prime Minister Kevin Rudd appears set to have the budget back into deficit this coming financial year. He is very much like Obama in that he's a socialist politician with the usual left-wing fondness for grandiose schemes paid for with large amounts of borrowed money.

Let's not forget, though, that no matter how much we may dislike these leaders, we must continue to remember them in our prayers. They are lost souls needing salvation, just like multitudes of other people around the world. God may have mercy on them yet.

Thank you for the link, and your input... Upholder. Smile

I took this paragraph from the article:
For Obama, the challenge is clear: He will have to increase spending on health care and energy if he wants to accomplish the policy overhaul he promised during his campaign, yet he also needs to cut spending elsewhere and increase revenue to meet his deficit goal.

Hmmm? I kind of figured that he would do something like this. Does this fit in with his "promises" during his campaign?

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh's radio show last Friday afternoon. He had lots to say! Rush also said that Obama was warned by Vladmir Putin, of Russia, not to go Socialist in the USA. Putin advised Obama that once Socialism is put in place... there is really no going back. That is quite shocking coming from a Communist. Especially... Russia! I wonder if I can download Rush' program?

Thanks for sharing your experience living in Australia, Daniel. That is really something. The USA seems to be following suite.

Yes... Romans 13 states that we must (as Christians) pray for our government leaders; except, for the sin... that is. And, there is plenty of that in Washington! I do pray that our politicians and President Obama come to know Christ as Personal Saviour, before it is everlasting too late. Sad I think it is fitting to pray that God places God fearing Christ followers in their paths. Amen?

Amen! I have written MANY letters to politicians. Other than former, President GW Bush, and Senator George Voinovich... I have not heard back from anyone else. I will also be sorry when Voinovich retires. Imo, he is one of the LAST good guys. Strickland, Governor of Ohio, is one of those guys that will "cow tow" to anything that DC says. That is sad and pathetic at the same time. Where are the cowboys, anymore?

RE: Obama's accomplishment's
You all may have already seen this but I am going to post it anyway.
Quote:President Obama named Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as his choice for health and human services secretary Monday, the second nominee to lead the agency that deals with Medicare and food safety.

He also named Nancy-Ann DeParle, commissioner of the Department of Human Services in Tennessee and a Clinton administration official, as the new health czar, heading up the new White House Office for Health Reform.

Obama, whose previous nominee Tom Daschle withdrew amid tax problems, said his second choice "knows health care inside and out" and praised her record of bipartisanship as well as her experience as state insurance commissioner in Kansas.

"As a governor she's been on the front lines of our health care crisis. She has a deep knowledge of what the burden of crushing costs does to our families and businesses," Obama said.

Sebelius said she shares Obama's "passion and personal commitment to health care reform" and cited her two decades working on the issue first as a legislator and later as governor.

"We can't fix the economy without fixing health care," she said.

As HHS secretary, Sebelius will work with Democrats and Republicans to cut costs, expand access and improve the quality of health care in the nation, the White House wrote in a paper statement.

"If we are going to help families, save businesses, and improve the long-term economic health of our nation, we must realize that fixing what's wrong with our health care system is no longer just a moral imperative, but a fiscal imperative. Health care reform that reduces costs while expanding coverage is no longer just a dream we hope to achieve -- it's a necessity we have to achieve," Obama said in the statement.

The White House noted that $155 million authorized in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be spent on 126 new health centers for people without insurance to gain access to health care services. Those centers will create jobs and give health care to about 750,000 Americans, the White House predicted.

The announcement of Obama's health and human services secretary nominee comes just days before the president holds a White House summit on health care. Lawmakers from both parties and representatives of major interest groups, from insurers to drug companies to consumers, will attend.

Gaining their support -- as well as winning confirmation -- are among the 60-year-old governor's first challenges. Sebelius, whose abortion rights positions alarm some on the right, will be a very public face for Obama's plans for health care, although DeParle will handle many of the new policy moves.

The recession has taken its toll on Medicare, which provides health care for older people and the disabled. Plunging tax revenues have weakened the program's giant hospital fund, accelerating its projected insolvency to as early as 2016. That is only about five years after the first baby boomers will start signing up for services.

The Food and Drug Administration, meanwhile, is reeling from a seemingly endless series of safety lapses.

Sebelius is seen as a steady hand and an experienced public official but is also Obama's backup plan.

Originally, the president had counted on former Senate Majority Leader Daschle to shepherd his health overhaul agenda through Congress. Daschle would have worn two hats: health secretary and health czar.

But Daschle withdrew his nomination after disclosing he had unpaid tax problems. That left the new administration scrambling to find a substitute secretary.

Obama made his opening move on a health care overhaul last week: his speech to Congress and a budget that set aside $634 billion over 10 years as a down payment on coverage for all. It's a goal that could ultimately cost $1 trillion or more.

Obama wants to expand coverage while slowing the rate of increase in costs. Administration officials say they hope that will lead to a more affordable system, without the coverage gaps that leave an estimated 48 million people uninsured.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I wonder what the chances are he will get it right this time? It seems to me that he may have surrounded himself with folks that are not too good at what they are supposed to do. He has already lost three nominees for various reasons. I thought they were supposed to vet these folks before making an appointment.

Another interesting thing to me is it seems that all we heard about during the campaign was change. Yet there are a whole bunch of people Obama has appointed to some very important positions which are retreads from the Clinton administration. What kind of change is that?

Here's another good one. I will just post the linkk to this one as it is also pretty lengthy.

http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets...tedly-set/

Not only is the Obama administration working on nationalizing the banking industry it looks like they want the taxpayers to take over the insurance industry also. Now I wouldn't mind owning part of these companies if I could share their money with them.

It makes me stop and wonder. What happens if CitiGroup, Bank of America, AIG and countless others don't pay back what the government has "loaned" them? Also what happens if they pay it all back? Does the government (us) still own a big part of the company or are they off the hook? It certainly would nice that if the government were to continue to own a big part of the companies and the companies return to profitability that the government would use their share of the profits to lower our taxes.

I know it is early (Wednesday morning) but, my neck and back hurt. There is no point in staying in bed... lol. So, I am on the PC and ready to do never-ending dishes.

Anyway, I wanted to comment on Brother George's post about Obama naming (D) Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius as his choice of "Health and Human Services Secretary."

Abortion, obviously, appauls the "true" believer. This woman is clearly out of touch as a human being, imo. It really bothers me when woman votes Pro-Choice. I can't accept it from anyone... but a woman? It is outrageous! Also, the poor elderly folk... on medicare. They deserve better than this. Food safety... hmmm? I suppose we will see.

I sent the following to President Obama. I don't know what good it will do. ** praying**

I thought it was, at least, worth getting some attention from the politicians in DC. I will call in about 2 weeks... after they get time to read it... lol. Prayfully and hopefully. Again, I will see. God bless you fine group of people.
