Survivor of abuse

RE: Survivor of abuse
George, I did not think you believe that, but according to many of the worldly people a father who takes their children to all the games is a good father.

May God Bless,
Jerry

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not
thine own lips. Proverbs 27:2

Not by any means. My dad provided shelter, clothing and food but an interpersonal relationship as that of a father and son was absent.

As with candlelight's last post my dad was an alcoholic. Both that and a heavy smoker. I grew up thinking that was normal behaviour. So when a young adult I started drinking and it got worse and worse then I ended up in drugs. Fortunately when I was quite young I attended a First Baptist Church so when my life got completely unmanageable I knew immediately where to turn for help.

Do those things make him a bad father? Not by any means, just an absent father. You see my Heavenly Father is there for me at all times. He is good to me even when I don't think He is. he has given me everything I need and a lot of the things I want. And...I know now first hand the love of a Father.

In Christ,
George

RE: Survivor of abuse
I am confused by your post to Brother George, Pastor Jerry.

Pastor Jerry said:

If this scripture verse was meant for me? I am praising my BIL's... as I beleive I should. I am not praising myself. I will always hold our USA military in high regard. All of them... who served and are still serving our country... all across the world. Last year, we had an 18 year old young man from my hometown that came back in a body bag from Iraq. VERY sad!! It seems that they serve our country with honour, bravery, and dignity, and where does it leave many of them when they return from war? Either, in the grave or without good medical coverage. They come back hooked on drugs and alcohol? I can't even imagine the Tours that they do. How could they NOT drink or drug... with what they see? Then... the "flashbacks?" I can't imagine.

Our system is so corrupt, though, because the "Freeloaders" are getting this medical coverage, and NOT our Veterans. Shame on our system!! Veterans need and should get medical coverage. Also, counseling and therapy to get them through their addictions? Medical coverage is denied for that!? Many times... in those rooms and with counselors and doctors... you will find believers. Then... they direct you to a Bible-believing church, after that. I have heard testimony after testimony on that.

I have magnet on the back of our Jeep (Army green) that states: "Home of the free... because of the brave!" That is the truth of the matter. God bless.

RE: Survivor of abuse
Sister Molly there is another quote that goes along with the one you posted. "America is free thanks to its veterans." I have that on a t-shirt that I wear on special occasions such as Veterans day.

I am not certain how many more my fall into the category but Brother Jim (who has been conspicuously absent recently) is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and I am a veteran of the United States Navy, Viet Nam era. There are probably more here who are veterans.

In Christ,
George

Thanks, Pastor Jerry for explaining. I got a touch senstive last night. You know women... lol. That is why I have always been taught (and, we know it is Biblical) that men are in charge of the home, church, and government. I lean on my husband b/c he leans on the Lord. From the pulpit... we have male pastors in our Independent Fundamental Bible-believing churches. Praise the Lord! And, I really have a HUGE issue with women in politics. Sorry, ladies... who may not agree. Emotional... "yes", God made us that way! Thanks Eve!! I am sorry that I questioned you... Pastor Jerry. I shouldn't have; as I have always told you that you remind me of my first IFB pastor, and he reminds me of my dad. Praise God for good leaders in our churches!

I like that one... Brother George. I often read (or have my hubby read this board) and he likes that, too. The 2 IFB churches that I have attended (and, attend) ALWAYS recognize our Veterans. We have so many vets in our churches.

Jim, is a USMC... veteran? Praise God! Thank you, Jim for your service to our nation and the world. I kinda had a hunch about you, George. Army and Navy are in my blood... so I can usually spot a USN man with his words. Amen!! You survived and became a conquerer for Jesus Christ... from Vietnam?! Praise the Lord!! Also, thank you for your service to this nation and world, as well. My husband's uncle did a Tour 1/2 in Nam. My FIL served in the First Calvary in Korea, prior to Vietnam. His dad was very ill at the time... so, he came back to the states. Shortly after that, Nam started. "We are Soldiers" the movie with Mel Gibson... was my FIL's unit.

Well... "Survivor of abuse" really fits here. I prefer to call it "Conquerers of abuse" in the case of our USA Veterans. I know another vet on here... but, I will let him speak for himself.

God bless,

Molly

Uncle, U. S. Army, World War 2
Father, U. S. Army, World War 2
Brother, U. S. Army, late 40's, early 50's
Brother, U. S. Navy mid 50's
Brother, U. S. Air Force late 50's
1st Cousion, U. S. Army late 50's
Me, U. S. Air Force, 66 to 69
Grandson, U. S. Marines presently in basic training.

I suppose that makes me come from a family that's rich in the tradition of serving in the Armed Forces of this United States of America to protect our freedoms, there could be more, but my grandfather is as far back that I know of.

Christ died to save us from our sins and give us life more abundant, the solider serve to give us freedom to chose.

But Christ ought to always come 1st.

RE: Survivor of abuse
At about 7:00 PM California time yesterday evening my grandson got to call his mother, his DI let him use his cell phone to call his mother after he had made the best marksmanship in his flight. I think it was a great relief to both of them to get to take to one another. They did not talk but 10 minutes! He is now just a bit over halfway thru bootcamp.

I remember my 1st call home, no answer, that was a bummer for me.

May the Lord bless,
Jerry
