Anyone a Progressive Dispensationalists?
I am asking this question to find someone to discuss my objections with PDism. I find that if I engage in the issue with someone else, it helps to build my own views and come to a better understanding of truth. We can start anywhere: complimentary hermeneutics, "already/not yet" fulfillment, Davidic Covenant, New Covenant, Kingdom of God, Church Israel distinctions, or whatever.

RE: Anyone a Progressive Dispensationalists?
Why don't you start it? Pick one.
And one question, did you make sure you agreed with the statement of faith here? Love in Christ, Jim Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. |

RE: Anyone a Progressive Dispensationalists?
I am not a progressive dispensationalist to my current knowledge of what it to be. I believe there to be a balance between dispensationalism and covenant theology, but there opens a very broad spectrum does it not?

RE: Anyone a Progressive Dispensationalists?
Progressive Dispensationalism is very close related to Covenant Premillennialism. Bock (one of the originators of the movement) denies that claim on the basis that though their ideas are very similar, PDism is different b/c it arrived at their conclusions from a different method of logic (or something like that). Bock writes about it in this article: "Why I am a Dispensationalist with a Small 'd'" By: Bock, Darrell L. Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, 41 no 3 S 1998, p 383-396.
The main teaching in PDism is that Christ is currently reigning on the Davidic throne in heaven and the Church partially fulfilling the New Covenant which God made only to Israel (Jer. 31:31-34). They also believe that since Christ has currently begun His Davidic reign, then the Church must be in the "already" stage of the Messianic Kingdom. Thus my biggest disagreement with PDism is that it blurs the distinction between the Church and Israel. That is a nutshell definition of Progressive Dispensationalism. I am sure that I did not do it justice in the eyes of a PDist. Hope that helps. John 3:30: "He must increase!" Detroit Red Wings 2008 Stanley Cup Champions!!! Okay Greek-son, I write this to get you back for some light discourse to respond to (CT says you still read FPC); Ephesians 3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,2If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit If this is where we are today doesn't this put us in the PD pew too?? Be 'salt & Light' in all we do! 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. |
