I truly believe whatever you believe will have to be taken by faith because that is an essential element of who we are in Christ and why we believe Him...

I agree with this statement.

Quote:
In this scenario your faith is being placed into something that has obvious "questions" and "doubts" concerning the authenticity of parts of the text because of "disagreements" -- You are a convicted man on this issue.

Hmmm....

And just what, to your mind, are the "questions" and "doubts" you lament here?

To mind, the only questions and doubts are the Vaticanus and Sinaiticus which have been proven to not align with any reliable manuscripts. Why do you think they were in obscurity for so long, in such wicked hands?

I am not the one basing my belief on fallacious roots.

Quote:
also let me say i spent a long time in classes that praised Erasmus...

Well then let me say that anyone who spends too much time in classes easily fall victim, and even prey for that matter, to the docrtrine of man. That doctrine that glorifies man's intellect rather than the Lord's Spirit.

Moodee, if your fundamentalism is about fundamentalists, then maybe you ought to reconsider your position as a D.L. Moody supporter? THe last time I heard, when people start adding to the Word of God and taking away from it, it was called Pharaseeism. You should be careful about what you "learn" and from whom you are learning it.

Love in Christ,

Jim

Yeah I'm KJV also. Mind you anyone who is saved is my brother and sister in Christ and I love them whether they read KJV or not.

When I became saved 7yrs ago I started reading KJV and have ever since. You know God can give us discernment of his word. When I pray before I read I give Him thanks first for the opportunity to read His word, then thanks for His word, etc. then I ask Him to help give me the wisdom and knowledge of His word as I read it. To show me what it is He would have me to see there in reading. (God can take the same scripture and use it in many different ways to show us things.) I finish my prayer. With the help of a concordance with the bible and God being my guide and help, that's all I need.

God Bless!

Geneva Bible

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Geneva Bible (I will admit that I didn't read all the post in this section, but I did do a quick search on "Geneva" and it didn't show up in this section).

I have heard that the 1599 is generally regarded as the "best" at least by the authors I have read on the subject. I have found a resource on the net to order a complete facsimile. I am seriously considering ordering one.

Some of the stuff I have read on the KJV is that it was produced after King James grew upset at the Bible notes primarily within the Geneva Bible on the lawful resistance of tyranny.

Here is an excellent exposition on the problem with the "New Century" translation. Please read all of it:

My Thought

I will definitely have to stick with the good old fashioned KJV bible Very Happy That is the only bible I ever read and will probably be the only bible i will ever read!(If that makes any sense!)

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear but of but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

I only trust the King James Version to be the best version for English people.
For example the New International Version in Isaiah 14 verses 12-15 describes the morning star as this:

Quote:
Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

13 You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.

14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."

15 But you are brought down to the grave,
to the depths of the pit.

And in the New International Version in Revelation 22:16 it describes the morning star as this:

Quote:
Revelation 22:16 I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.

Now it might be confusing to some people why this matters at all but the King James Version uses the word Lucifer where The NIV uses the words morning star in the Isaiah reference as follows:

Quote:
Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! *

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Lucifer the Devil and Satan. Why would Jesus call himself by the same name "morning star" as Lucifer "morning star".
He most definitely would not! The NIV is from the Devil. It is plainly obvious.

II Corinthians 10:5

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself
against the knowledge of God,
and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"

I've always used the same Bible as did my kith and kin and call it my "straight stick".

It was the only one used (and it was black) in all the school-houses, pulpits and courtrooms back then. I think the judge would enter the room holding it above his head and everyone would rise in reverence to it.

We just called it Holy Bible. There was no king james reference said.

Amen to that Granny! I have a number of King James Bibles. I do not think I have any that have the word "version" printed on the cover. The King James Bible is not a version, it is God's Holy Word, it is inerrant and preserved as such for the believer.

In Christ,
George

The ESV may have some good points but it's NT is not based on the Received Text, therefore it is unreliable as it misses out verses and undermines the deity of Christ.

Thanks for your reply Bob, and your pm. I have dowloaded the information regarding the ESV from the Trinitarian Bible Society web site, it is very useful.

Whilst on the subject of the Trinitarian Bible Society, I received this email recently from my daughter.

Quote:
Hi,

I thought you might be interested in the below, which is from somebody in our church who works for TBS.

Mary

Quote:
Hi,

On a trip down to my parents on Monday I saw the attached and happened to have my digital camera on me. TBS have these displayed on Railway Stations all over the UK. Certain major stations have sought to "ban" these because they are against religious (and political) advertising. We are in negotiations with them about this so prayers are required. Also we have had atheists "offended" in the past but I doubt if this current poster will cause as much trouble as the one showing Psalm 53 vs. 1. Many non main stations are unaffected by the ban. Actually Clapham Junction used to be the busiest in Europe and platform 13 is the main throughway to Croydon and beyond.

In Christ
David.

The photos were of some posters on the platform, about 5ft high. The first is for a new musical Wicked and it says:

Quote:
Everyone is talking about wicked

The next poster is from the TBS and says:

Seek ye the
LORD while
he may be
found, Call ye
upon Him
while He is
near.

Isaiah 55: 6

I would also have put on a poster:

Isaiah 5:20

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
