What does the Bible say about sin?

The Bible, God's Word, says in Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Sin is an awful thing. All of us stand before God guilty of sin, having broken His Holy Law.

Is there a penalty for sin?

The Bible also says there is a terrible penalty for sin. Romans 6:23 says "For the wages of sin is death..." God judges sinners. Revelation 21:8 "...and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Hell is a real place. All of us deserve to go there as the punishment for our sin. This leaves man in an awful state, his greatest need unsatisfied.

What did God do about it?

Thankfully, we learn from God's Word that His greatest gift meets our greatest need. John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.,." Many years ago Jesus Christ, the Son of God , came to earth, endured tremendous suffering, bled, and died on the cross, and rose triumphantly from the grave to become our greatest gift. God saw we were headed for hell, but God's grace allowed His only begotten Son to be crucified to pay for our sin. Romans 5:8 says "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

What should I do?

You can do one of two things with this gift, Refuse it or accept it. If you want to accept it, the Bible says in Romans 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." You have to repent of your sin and ask God to forgive and save you. If you believe what God has said in His Word about sin and the punishment you deserve in hell, and want to accept His great gift of salvation then sincerely pray and ask Him for it.
