Quote:
The Bible on the printed page is only a tool, a text book, to bring out the truths of the HOLY SPIRIT.

And how can those truths be truth indeed if man has altered so severely the words contained therein, such as in the modern versions? It cannot. the words themselves must also have been preserved. That is of course unless you believe that the Word of God can be revealed through any and every mans literary work?

If it was left to man alone to translate how he saw fit, how could he do it properly? This goes against everything Calvinism believes about total depravity in man, hence the title of this thread. Wink If a man can "do no good", then how is he to translate God's Word?

If those words in ink are not preserved, then we do not have the Word of God, else how would it come to us? If a calvinist believes they were preserved through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, then he would not be using the modern versions! This is the subtle contradiction to which I am referring.

Calvinists claim the total depravity of man. I agree with this doctrine completely. I will not say all, but some Calvinists also claim that the bible is only a translation and not preserved(guided by the Lord), or they claim that all bibles today are the preserved Word of GOd, which is also a contradiction!

We cannot have our cake and eat it too.

Love in Christ,

Jim

Jim, I get the hint. It was a little off topic Wink but it was what I needed to get out so there it is. Honestly, I read the previous posts and the thread IS a little hard to follow who is where on what... I like things that need to be chewed before you swallow but this one was like whale blubber...chew,chew,chew,chew...rest, chew chew, chew, chew. Not many people now days have tasted eskimo whale blubber. It is a rare treat trust me.
Theological whale blubber...not very nutritional but keeps your mouth busy.
