Battle Hymn of the Republic sung at the White House
Did anyone else hear/watch this? Stirring rendition of the song by the US Army chorus.
A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell. - C. S. Lewis

Yes brother, the primary reason I watched was to hear the US Army chorus. They did an outstanding job on the song. The arrangement they used was very stirring. Most of the time I sat there watching with goose bumps all over.

I didn't get to hear it, but I wished I had. I heard Rush Limbaugh rave about it. He was giving President Bush huge props for it. Does anyone know where I can go to hear it or watch it? I am going to try youtube.

RE: Battle Hymn of the Republic sung at the White House
Hello-
Sorry, but I truly hate that song. The author was a female abolitionist who believed that God was punishing the South, and wanted to see all Southerners dead, including my ancestors! I will never again sing it, or sit by while it is sung. I am not saying this to rebuke or offend the poster, or those who replied in a positive way, but I do believe that the truth needs exposing here. I USED to like it too, before I realized this, so I will have grace with those who were innocently ignorant of it's roots.

I have ancestors going back to Jamestown, Virginia on both sides of my family (one was a shareholder in the Virginia Company, a settler in the Colony and a government official in the 1620s). At last count I have at least 5 direct ancestors who served with Lee, but I do not pay them or any other traitor any homage. Whenever I hear “Dixie” I turn off whatever is making the racket or I leave the room. Slavery is an abomination of human dignity and was a blot on America’s heritage.
Can someone tell me why the Battle Hymn was being sung for Herr Gott on der Erde? The Battle Hymn was one of Winston Churchill’s favorites and it was more fittingly sung at his funeral. National Geographic covered the funeral and if you can find a copy of the issue you may find a 45rpm record of the service.
