RE: A grave concern

I agree with Eb and MS. This line of reasoning is just wrong

Quote:
Political positions. I recall a man once saying, if you want to ruin a good honest man, elect him to congress and send him to Washington

I can't find this in scripture anywhere....

Quote:
OK, show me any involvement whatsoever Jesus and His 12 had in government affairs.

Jesus was also not involved in stone-masonry, does that mean that everyone that is a bricklayer cannot be a christian? Or any other trade or position that Jesus did not occupy?

Jesus Christ came for one reason and one reason alone and he was dedicated to that reason. He was also a carpenter, but how much time did scripture focus on this? Almost none. Why, because it simply didn't matter. During those times, to make a living you either worked for someone or you were an artisan, or an apprentice to an artisan. Joesph was a carpenter, and Jesus the child and teenager, when he was not teaching in the temple and being about his father's business was working with Joseph in the carpentry shop.

As Mongol Servant and Ebenezer have stated, if you don't want government to exert control over you in an ungodly fashion, then we need christians to change the face of government. We are not isolationists, we need to be involved in things that do affect us, of this world, and out of this world.

Love in Christ,

Jim

RE: A grave concern

Matthew 22:21 - They say unto him, Caesar's, Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and the things unto God the things that are God's.

That has nothing to do with a Christian, a child of God, being involved in politics, but it does say we are to render unto our government what it requires,

Our government at present time is not near as evil as the government was into the day God inspired Paul to write theses words to be obedient to those who are in authority.

Ro 13:1 ¶ Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Ro 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
Ro 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Ro 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Ro 13:5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
Ro 13:6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Ro 13:7 ¶ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
Ro 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Its about being obedient, obeying the government, not about being involved in politics. Of course as I previously said, unless the government tells you to do something that is a sin against God, of course them we are to obey God.

Good try at trying to take scriptures completely out of context and ignoring some very basic scriptures. Study it all out with out the prejudices this world has taught you, only them will it all come together for you.

In His service,
Jerry

RE: A grave concern

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

In government we are now being trodden under foot because we are deluded in our savour.

Salt is one of earths most abundant minerals, its used in almost everything in some way. It flavors or preserves or corrodes those things in which it contacts. It cannot loose its savour but it can be so deluded as to have no effect…
